Department of History

The Department of History at Dr. Y.S. Parmar Govt. PG College Nahan proudly stands as one of the institution’s oldest departments, dating back to a time even before the college came under the auspices of the Himachal Government in 1977. History is more than just a subject; it is a lens through which we gain invaluable insights into our society and the evolutionary changes it has undergone. By delving into history, we arm ourselves with the knowledge and understanding of past events and trends, enabling us to develop a profound appreciation for the world’s current affairs.

Within our college, History has consistently been a popular choice among students, drawing a significant number of enthusiasts. Our curriculum aligns with the design and approval of Himachal Pradesh University, offering a wide spectrum of courses tailored to equip students with essential skills and knowledge. The Department proudly presents BA (Pass Course) under the ‘Choice Based Credit System’ (CBCS), comprising Discipline Specific Core (DSC), Skill Enhancement Generic Courses (SEC), and Generic Elective Courses (GE).

Beyond the confines of classrooms, our department encourages students to engage in practical learning experiences. We organize historical tours and visits that immerse students in real-world historical contexts. Furthermore, our commitment to academic enrichment extends to the organization of seminars, workshops, and conferences, where students can bridge the gap between theory and its application in the contemporary world. In the Department of History, we are dedicated to unraveling the past to better prepare our students for a brighter future.
