Curriculum Vitae – Dr. Jagdish Chand
Dr. Jagdish Chand is an Assistant Professor of Geography at Govt. PG College Nahan, District Sirmour, Himachal Pradesh. He is presently serving as the Coordinator of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), Ministry of Education, Government of India, and has also coordinated the IIRS-ISRO Outreach Programme at Government PG College Nahan.
Dr. Chand is a Double Gold Medallist in M.A. and M.Phil. and holds a Ph.D. in Geography. He has qualified UGC NET-JRF and SLET. He has earned a certification in Remote Sensing and GIS from the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS-ISRO) and AICTE, and a certification in Disaster Management from the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Ministry of Home Affairs. He also holds a PG Diploma in Remote Sensing and GIS from NIRD, Hyderabad, a PG Diploma in Disaster Management, and a PG Diploma in Urban Planning and Development.
He has published more than 50 research papers in reputed national and international journals, including those indexed in UGC-CARE, Scopus, and Web of Science. In addition, he has presented more than 80 research papers at various national and international conferences and seminars. He has authored and edited eight books, including two published in Germany, two in the United States, and four in India.
He also serves as a Key Resource Person in Disaster Management at SCERT Solan. In collaboration with scientists, engineers, and researchers, he has developed more than 20 patents in India and the United Kingdom, related to disaster management, remote sensing-GIS, agriculture, curriculum development, higher education, and stress management techniques.
Dr. Chand has successfully completed more than 80 professional trainings and workshops in the fields of Remote Sensing & GIS, Climate Change, Disaster Management, and related areas from prestigious national and international institutions, including the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Space Applications Centre (ISRO), NASA (USA), JAXA (Japan), CSSTEAP, the United Nations, ESRI, IIT Delhi, IIPA New Delhi, Department of Space (Government of India), National Institute of Disaster Management (MoHA), and the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs.
In 2021, he was a member of the NEP-2020 Implementation Committee for Geography, constituted by the Department of Higher Education, Government of Himachal Pradesh. Furthermore, in 2024, he served as a member of the Evaluation Committee for the School Safety Disaster Management Plan of Himachal Pradesh and the Self-Assessment Report Committee of the Solan Cluster. He is also a member of several professional organizations, including the Indian Society of Remote Sensing, the National Association of Geographers, India, and the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing.
He has coordinated more than 100 IIRS-ISRO Outreach Programmes at Government College Sangrah and Government PG College Nahan and was honoured with the “Best Coordinator Award” in 2020 along with three Appreciation Certificates in 2019, 2020, and 2024 by the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (ISRO), Dehradun.
Dr. Jagdish Chand has received several prestigious honours for his outstanding academic and social contributions, including the “Vidya Visharad” and “Sirmour Ratna” awards. He was awarded the “Best Coordinator Award 2020” by IIRS-ISRO Dehradun and received Appreciation Certificates in 2018, 2019 and 2024. He was also honoured with the “Best Teacher Award” for two consecutive years (2023-24 and 2024-25) by the National Edu Trust of India (MSME, Government of India).
In 2025, for the first time in the history of the college, he was honoured by the Government of Himachal Pradesh with the prestigious “State Teachers Award 2025” on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, 5 September 2025, recognizing his outstanding dedication to teaching, research, and community service.
